What is Chipin?

Chipin is a social media fund raising application that enables users to organize group payments and fundraisers (”ChipIns”) in a quick, easy, and secure way. Organizers may publicize their ChipIns, by providing personalized fundraising widgets that can be embedded within social media vehicle.

What is Chipin and How Can it be Beneficial?

ChipIn allows anyone to collect money for a personal cause, group purchase, or fundraiser using their own custom ChipIn page or a Chipin Widget which is displayed on your blog or website.

Using a Chipin Widget, as a blogger, you are able to create an interactive widget that allows you to raise money directly through blogs and other social media. Non-profit organizations are empowered to engage a distributed network of supporters in “blograising” campaigns for major fundaising efforts.

The Gaboinked! Chipin SideBar Widget for WordPress

Until now, there was not a WordPressive solution to easily display a Chipin Widget in a WordPress Sidebar. As a WordPress blogger wishing to display a Chipin Widget in the Sidebar of your blog, you would need to hard-code your template with the widget code supplied by Chipin. The existing Chipin method for adding a Chipin Widget to a WordPress blog depends on the use of <embed></emded> tags within the post itself to display a Chipin Widget.

The Gaboinked! Chipin Sidebar Widget for WordPress blogs is my first WordPress 2.x sidebar widget that allows you to configure and display your Chipin Widget in your WordPress sidebar. It has been tested on WordPress version 2.5 and should work on any WordPress version 2.3 and above.

The Gaboinked! Chipin Sidebar Widget easily adds a Chipin Event Widget to your WordPress sidebar. This is a convenient way for visitors to donate funds to any cause or event you wish. The Gaboinked! Chipin Sidebar Widget is a social fundraising solution for WordPress 2.3 and above. This widget is WordPress 2.5 compatible.

The Gaboinked! Chipin Sidebar Widget is currently deployed at http://gaboink.net. If you like it, and find it useful, any contributions or donations are greatly appreciated. Please leave a comment letting me know that you are using this widget!

Hey George, great widget and idea! It definitely came in handy with a few blogs I host. I wonder why Chipin forgot to create something like this. They should take a look at this for their WordPress users.

I was wondering if it will this work for hosted Wordpress blogs?

Hello calisto, thank you for the kind words and I am glad to here it is useful for someone!

As far as it being usable on WordPress.com hosted blogs, I am almost certain that it is not possible. You may need to write an email asking them to include it in the hosted repository and see if you have any luck there.

    Hi Lynn,

You simply need to create a Chipin Event and a Chipin Widget within your Chipin Account first.

Once you’ve done that, then you select the code for WordPress, and you’ll discover the required code within the code provided by Chipin.

The options provided by the rest of my widget will be familiar to you after that.

    Hope this helps.

    George

    Hey George,

Just downloaded your plugin but I’m not finding this widget id code anywhere… I am on WP 2.8 so perhaps your plugin is obsolete now.

    Please advise,
    CP
